French bulldog stolen from Orange County breeder in December is located; suspect in theft is arrestedJanuary 10, 2011 |  3:55pm

A French bulldog stolen from her Orange County owner last month was located at the home of a Duarte man on Thursday, The Times' local news blog L.A. Now reports.

Dog breeder Lorinda Tucker said she was pushed to the ground by a man who came to her home in response to an ad about a French bulldog for sale. The man ran off carrying Macy -- not the dog for sale but a family pet -- and drove away, according to the Orange County Register. At a press conference, Tucker said she had "not slept since [Macy] was taken, not knowing if she was warm, being fed, being taken care of."

Sheriff's deputies found Macy when they searched the residence of Darryl Jerome Cole, 20, who was on probation for a prior conviction related to stealing dogs. Another French bulldog, reported stolen during a September robbery in Chino, was also discovered during the search of Cole's home, and Cole told police that he had planned to breed the dogs and sell their puppies. He was held in custody over the weekend in lieu of bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino said Costa Mesa and Temecula police are looking into the possibility that Cole could be involved in other, similar incidents of dog theft and attempted dog theft elsewhere in Southern California earlier in 2010.

If it's not a puppy mill, the perpetrator should get maximum fine for both stealing the dog(s) and assaulting the owner(s), plus B&E if appropriate. They used to shoot horse thieves...

If this woman sells dogs to total strangers through ads, with no other criteria than that they can pay her price, how would she have any way of knowing if THOSE dogs are "warm, being fed, being taken care of"?

She loses sleep over her family pet, but just hands over the other dogs she breeds for profit with no questions asked? She certainly has selective caring. I will save my sympathy for the dogs she sells like Tupperware to God knows who...
